ACC Girl Choir is for high school girls entering the 10th, 11th and 12th grades.
The program is for ladies who love to sing a variety of music and want the experience of singing in an all-girls ensemble and who desire to improve musicianship and vocal technique.
Requirement for Participation:
Prior singing experience and an audition. To arrange an audition, please contact Emily Capece, Director, at ecapece@womansongchorale.com. The director will talk with each applicant and will check for voice quality, range, and the ability to sing in tune.
What to bring:
Please bring a small photo we can keep. You also will be asked to fill out a short form upon arrival.
What to prepare:
Please prepare a short song of your choosing. It can be as simple as “America the Beautiful” or any music you have sung before. An accompanist will be provided.
Rehearsals: Will take place at the University of Charleston on Sunday afternoons, from 3-5 p.m. There will be no extra rehearsals.
Performances: Girl Choir will perform at the Appalachian Children’s Chorus holiday and spring concerts. Additional performances will be decided upon by the group.
Tuition: Cost to sing in Girl Choir is $350 for the year. Performance dresses will be the responsibility of the members and will be decided upon by the choir.
Financial Aid: Is available for families who qualify. No one will be turned away for financial reasons. For information about financial aid, please call Holly at the ACC office at 304-343-1111.
About the Director: Emily Capece has recently completed her master's degree in music education and choral conducting from the Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ and holds bachelor’s degrees in vocal performance and music education from Otterbein College in Ohio. While in Princeton, Emily conducted the training choir of the Princeton Girl Choir and sang in the world-renowned Westminster Choir, Westminster Symphonic Choir, Kantorei and Fuma Sacra. Ms. Capece has taught choral music in Okinawa, Japan; Fairfax County, Virginia and New York City. She was awarded the National Endowment for the Humanities Teacher Grant to study Mozart Operas in Vienna, Austria in the summer of 2005. Emily has studied with some of the choral profession's most respected conductors and is a gifted mezzo-soprano. She has sung in numerous opera and musical theater productions, and she has most recently performed in the internationally-noted Spoleto Festival in South Carolina. Emily is currently the director of the womanSong Chorale, teaches voice lessons and stays at home with her son, Rudy.
