ACC to perform at the United Nations

Concert Choir, ACC’s touring choir, will journey to New York City in the summer of 2012 to participate in an international choir festival. Those organizing the event, Friendship Ambassadors Foundation, Inc., say it will be “as meaningful as it is memorable.” Their mission for this festival: Celebrating cultural diversity and mutual understanding through artistic exchange, specifically through choral singing.

"The Rhythms of One World" International Choral Festival, held June 25 -July 1, 2012, will open with a concert at UN Headquarters celebrating the anniversary of the signing of the UN charter, and will include other significant performances in iconic New York City venues.

The festival in which ACC will participate is unique from others as it focuses not only on great performances, but on the role of the universal language of music in promoting intercultural understanding, brotherhood, and peace.

The choir will perform in prestigious venues throughout Manhattan; take part in workshops led by internationally recognized choir directors; and be a part of a massed choral concert performance staged at the conclusion of the festival. A finale concert will be dedicated to the United Nations and the challenges it faces in peacekeeping, peace-building, and global development through the 8 Millennium Development Goals.

Some of the other experiences the children will include attending a Broadway show (The Lion King) and working with some of the performers who are part of the show. They will perform at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, tour the Museum of Natural History and Metropolitan Museum of Art, visit Radio City Music Hall and tour the city through a New York TV and Movies tour.

The children are currently raising money to help send them to the festival. If you are interested in helping a chorister, please contact the office at 304.343.1111.
