Canticle Choir and Codetta Preparatory Choirs

Canticle

For boys and girls in grades three through eight

Beginning in the fall of 2009, ACC started a new satellite choir in Putnam Co. As the need for an after-school music program was seen in the Logan Co. area, so too did the need arise in the Putnam Co. area. Thus the Canticle Choir was born.

In this choir, children demonstrate the ability to sing in parts. The initial goal is to secure a good unison sound in the ensemble. They will then sing in rounds and then in two and three parts when ready. Tone development and vocal techniques are stressed and music literacy is introduced. The children will sing in different languages.

The choir will perform in ACC’s Holiday and Spring Concerts as well as a few other concerts throughout the season at the discretion of the director. They also may take an overnight trip to perform in a choir festival. Canticle choir is invited to join other ACC choirs for the Appalachian Festival of Young Voices.

During enrollment for Canticle choir, children will sing privately for the director just to determine where they are vocally.Students do not need to have a piece prepared. We are here to help them sing so they need not worry! If you have more questions regarding the audition process, please e-mail the director, Ms. Long, at ilserenee@aol.com.

Tuition for this choir is $450 for the season.

Codetta Preparatory Program

For boys and girls in Kindergarten through second grade

As ACC saw a need for a music education program for Putnam Co, the choir established was for children in third grade up to eighth. Since the inception of the choir, there had been great interest in a program for younger children in Kindergarten through second grade. See this need, ACC planned to add another preparatory program to the choir; this time, in Putnam Co.

Just as Canzona is in Charleston, Codetta will be about children exploring the following: musicality, artistic interpretation, singing and rhythmic skills, aural and visual perception, language development, motor coordination, ensemble skills and social interaction. Children are welcome to come sing, say, dance, play, move and create through music. The structure of the program lays a musical foundation for young musicians to build on throughout their lives. It also allows for an easier transition into the upper choirs offered by the ACC.

This program is open to all children in Kindergarten through second grade and does not require an audition to join.

Codetta will only perform in the ACC Holiday and Spring Concerts.

This choir will just have regular weekly rehearsals for one hour. Depending on the number of children enrolled, this class occasionally is split into two groups to facilitate better instruction. If another class is needed, it will be on the same evening but start at a later time.

Tuition for this choir is $150.00 per semester (e.g. September – December)
